Matt Noir is a Brighton painter with a degree in Fine Art from Bath School of Art & Design.
He has exhibited at Subterranean Brighton Artist Open House for two years running and previously exhibited at the Brighton Fringe Festival, and put on a solo show ‘Conversation Pieces’ at Gallery 40, Brighton.
His paintings continue the tradition of the ‘Still Life’. They explore the symbolic power of objects, how they are bestowed with meaning, evoke memories and develop narratives.
Matt Noir works with early-to-mid 20th century pieces, that have a technical function, as well as objects of beauty and elegance, which can be imbued with personality and character. His work aims to enhance the objects’ human characteristics through paint, for them to have weight, form and presence on the canvas, and to create a conversation with the onlooker.
